Manufacturers’ News (MNI) regional study shows Minnesota ranks thirteen in the nation and sixth in the Midwest by number of manufacturing jobs and accounts for 10% of the Midwest’s industrial employment. Among top US manufacturing cities, Minneapolis ranks fifth in the Midwest and eleventh in the US with 70,477 factory jobs. Commercial printing is Minnesota’s largest industry by employment accounting for 27,927 jobs, with plastic products ranking second with 22,295 jobs and third-ranked surgical and medical instrument represent 17,428 jobs. Manufacturers’ News also reports Minnesota is now home to 11,297 plants employing 522,390 workers.
